In the pre-pandemic world, male regular wine drinkers typically drank wine on around 15-20% more occasions than female regular wine drinkers. Our latest research, published this week, suggests that the recent growth in wine drinking during the pandemic has been led by female wine drinkers increasing their number of wine drinking occasions at higher rates than men. In some markets, such as the US and Canada, men are not far behind in terms of increasing their consumption, but in other markets, such as Sweden, men are actually reducing wine consumption.
