Colombia Landscapes 2019 explores the effects of the country’s political instability and economic uncertainty on the wine industry as well as rising consumer involvement within the category.
For decades, Colombia was a source of political and economic instability in Latin America due to a changing government and fluctuations on the taxation of alcohol that majorly impacted the wine sector. Despite these tumultuous events, wine has been resilient and is considered emerging. Currently, the Colombian wine market is ranked 38th in the top 50 most attractive wine markets in the world according to the Wine Intelligence Global Compass classification.
Data uncovered in the report also reveals there is a rising involvement within the category, demonstrated by the significant growth in the proportion of consumers claiming to have a strong interest in wine and who take their time when purchasing it.
