Opportunity for the alternative wines discussed in our Canada SOLA 2019 report has remained relatively stable since 2018. However, trade experts remain positive about the potential futures of these categories in wine. Many of these wines have relatively low awareness, however, amongst those aware they demonstrate high levels of future purchase consideration. This is where an improvement in communication from producers to consumers may aid in the growth of these wines.

Canada SOLA: Opportunities in sustainable, organic & lower alcohol wines 2019 includes an in-depth analysis of alternative wine categories at a country specific level, discussing the definitions and legislation surrounding each wine. The report uses the Wine Intelligence opportunity quantitative index, measuring consumer opportunity. It features case studies including alcohol moderation as well as cues and barriers to purchasing lower alcohol products in the Canadian market.
